Male Ginga Rubra guppies chasing a female

Visual Guide to the Stages of the Ginga Rubra Endler Guppy Life Cycle

I have had the fun experience of watching this fun wild type of guppy through all stages of its life. The Ginga Rubra is a very unique guppy that has some fun characteristics that I haven’t seen on other guppies.

Baby Ginga Rubra

As you can see in the video above as babies they look just like any other guppy. Small without much shape or color to them.

This helps them hide and run away from the dangers of other fish eating them including their parents.

Baby guppies are so cute and quite good hiders so always keep your eyes out for them. You might be surprised how often you find guppy fry in your tank.

Young adult Ginga Rubra

In this video, you can see that the Ginga Rubra fry have matured and now are young adult fish.

Depending on how often you feed them and what types of foods you give them they can reach this size in 3 to 6 months.

The higher quality of food guppies get the faster and healthier they will grow and if it is protein rich it will also help.

Having clean water is also something important for the growth of baby guppies

You can start to identify the males from the females now. The females have kept the body shape that baby guppies have and the males have started to develop color and the adult tail has started to grow.

These are vital for the males to have because without them they would struggle to woo a female to mate with them.

Adult Ginga Rubra

Here the Ginga Rubra have developed into full grown mature adults. The females have nice round bellies that the babies develop in and the males have nice long pretty tails that are full of color.

This particular line of Ginga Rubra guppies have developed the gene for swordtails. You can see that there are several that have developing top swords and at least one that has the double swordtail.

As male guppies reach maturity they really only have two goals the first is food. They will eat whenever given the opportunity and the other, as you can see in this video is to breed with females.

One thing that I love about guppies is that their color isn’t dependent on displays of dominance or when trying to impress a female. They show great color always.

I have had fun watching these Ginga Rubra grow into adulthood. I would encourage you to get some fun and crazy guppies you like and watch them go through their life cycle. You won’t be disappointed.
